Blue Bubble: Abell 33.
About 1500 light years from Earth, Abell 33 is a planetary nebula - the eerie and beautiful structure created when dying stars cast off their outer layers. They come in many strange shapes, and it’s rare to find one that appears perfectly circular.
This image was made by Adam Block, using the 0.8 meter (32”) Schulman Telescope at the Mount Lemmon SkyCenter.
